From May 11 to May 20, a total of 146 graduates from the Westa’s first cohort majoring respectively in Economics, Biotechnology, Electronic and Information Engineering and Food Quality and Safety have completed their thesis defense. The joint efforts of all faculties and graduates bring thesis defense to successful close, which also round out the teaching related work for Westa’s first cohort.

Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, thesis defense is carried out online, using Tencent Meeting, Talkline, Dingding and other software as support. Students are required to do online defense, while supervisors and faculty members on the defense team can adopt a mixture of online and offline method to manage the defense. Prior to the formal defense, Westa College requires the defense teams to conduct online rehearsal to make sure everything is fully prepared.

The graduation theses of Westa College students' are all written in English, and so are the defense presentation slides. Although the language of defense is required to be bilingual, a few of the students and members on the defense team insist on using English for the whole process.

At the end of the defense, a number of faculties shared their thoughts and expressed their good wishes to the students. They were delighted by the achievements made by the students in the past four years.

Following the mechanism of Westa College, the related leading members and faculties of College of Economics and Management, College of Biotechnology, College of Electronic and Information Engineering, College of Food Science all participated in the defense. The defense was carried out in strict accordance with the thesis defense work plan which measures up to the standard. The members of the defense team took a serious and rigorous attitude in judging the defense. Not only are the students' learning achievements in the four years being tested, the thesis level and the quality of the graduates are effectively guaranteed as well.

Westa College has planned the instruction for thesis writing and defense work for the graduates in advance, and began to implement the tutorial system in the first semester of students' junior year of study. In line with the epidemic prevention and control work, The Implementation Plan of Teaching for the Epidemic Prevention and Control Work for the Westa College Spring Semester 2020 has been formulated; since the beginning of April, the Teaching Management Department of the college, in consultation with the relevant leaders and faculties of the school, has worked out in advance the graduation thesis defense plan for each major, cooperating with other departments of the college to coordinate and serve the defense team to ensure the successful completion of the defense work of the graduate thesis.

The success of teaching in Westa College is inalienable to the joint efforts of all. Westa College leadership attach great importance and carefully organize all the related work. Under the careful co-ordination and guidance of Secretary Chief Dr Wang Jing and Dean Prof Zhao Yufang, teaching related work is carried out meticulously. Deputy Dean Prof Li Xiaoyang led to promote the implementation of teaching，especially the defense work in detail. The teaching related work of Westa College is implemented under the guidance of the Academic Affairs Office and other executive departments, as well as the leading group of the Party and Administration in Westa College. At the same time, it also gains full support from the related college leaders and faculties.
